Floraglades Foundation
Welcome to our website. Floraglades Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to the environment, research, and education, having a particular focus on preserving the environment of south-central Florida. We currently manage two preserves, Floraglades Preserve and Moya Preserve, both in Glades County. Within their 200 acres, these preserves have a wide variety of habitats, from oak hammocks to cypress swamps. Our wildlife includes deer, turkey, bear, bobcat, otter, barred owl, and many other species--even an occasional Florida panther. We monitor the preserves on a regular basis to make sure no hunting occurs and to watch for other dangers such as illegal dumping. Removal of invasive exotic plants is an ongoing endeavor.
Although the preserves are not open to the public, we offer guided tours to small groups of interested persons, such as birdwatchers, youth groups, and native plant societies. In addition, the preserves are available on a limited basis for educational purposes and for scientific research. For example, they have been used for teaching the Wetlands Habitat module of Florida's Master Naturalist program.
